I absolutely love this project and totally admire Rose Shuman for conceiving it. A positive, beneficial and useful way of applying technology. ((Big love)) for Rose and the Open Mind Project. Link to it! Learn more here. And about volunteering here.

PS - I have also submitted Open Mind to The Atlantic nominating Rose for their "Brave Thinkers" publication. Here's what I wrote:
--------------------------------------
To: The Atlantic (via form submission)
"Rose Shuman should be nominated. Recently made Ted Fellow, applauded by New York Times and more. She conceived the idea to bring information and assistance to poverty stricken areas all over the globe by creating the Open Mind project and "Question Box". Please check it out.

Any young woman that travels around the world in areas with little to no resources - coordinating multiple languages and translators and many other things to provide tangible help to people without internet connections or phones - is, in my opinion, EXTRAORDINARILY brave and committed to making this world a better place regardless the challenge.

I learned of her through Ted Fellows announcement then saw the article on Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/28/technology/internet/28village.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=question%20box&st=cse) and was instantly amazed. She could be shopping at Tiffany's but she's NOT. She took an idea to help humanity - and made it ACTIONABLE.

When a farmer in Uganda needs to know what he can do to save his crops from infestation - he can get help in his own language thanks to the hard work, dedication and commitment of this one woman. Please consider her.

P.S. - I am not "shilling" here-- I do not personally know Rose but I posted about her in my blog and within 2 hours she posted back just to say 'thank you'. Unheard of that someone in her position would even take the time. That additionally was highly impressive.

Thank you,
Nu."
